everyone this is Nick wasmer on Flex tech school leader at Flex Tech Brighton here today to talk about a couple of different options for the fall I you might have heard some of these before but I just want to take a minute to dress them and acknowledge that we are planning for several different possibilities for our return to school in the fall I'm due to the covid-19 outbreak first thing I want to do is a College uncertainties we don't know what the follow look like for our schools but we can plan for a variety of scenarios the governor has put together a and education task force and they should horse their recommendations by mid-july so we hope to review those and determine a plan by early to mid August to share with our students and Families when is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now so we are trying our best to guess what the future might hold and do something about it we are working as a staff are four different scenarios some guidance in research from an institution called b a b which is a leading educational research institution presents three different scenarios one is the most optimistic scenario is that the worst is behind us and we contain the virus and we can move on and hopefully soon go back to normal another possibility is that we will slowly loosen soil distancing and the summer will depress the spread of covid-19 the Fall flu season will bring a major Resurgence, and this could lead to immediate shutdown and close schools and then another possibility is that there could be ongoing waves I'm not as severe as the first round but possibility of continuous spikes which could also be immediate disruption of schools in any of these scenarios I think we need to be prepared for the possibility that anytime we might have to close school and school could look different and fortunately this is our model at flextech we feel that we can prepare for this I want to acknowledge that historically Netflix Tech we've always offered multiple Pathways to earn credits or Monday through Thursday we have our face. instruction with drop-in hours on Fridays that's that's always been part of our model as well as distance learning we're face-to-face support is happening on Fridays and a lot of students take advantage of the combination of those two particular are seniors my School couple days a week and also on Fridays or maybe mornings only and also on Fridays so distance-learning it's always been part of what we do no matter which of these options for our students will always have the option enroll in our distance learning program so even if we go back to school full-time Monday through Thursday if students are families are not comfortable with that a distance learning program will always be an option Netflix. option A is back to normal so we resume as it was prior to the shutdown students the return to school Monday through Thursday and Friday's are optional for dropping support we will definitely increase safety and health procedures I will have much more on that later on one change we will be implementing staggered lunches for 9th and 10th graders would eat first and then 11 to 12 after this would limit the traffic in are you collab as well as traffic entering and leaving the building, as we will need to monitor that much more closely there will be limited numbers in the bathroom plan on a check-in check-out procedures use the bathroom cleaning protocols and bathrooms students and staff train will be trained on that so we will have to plan on waking surfaces down social distancing and spacing will be heard from practical and we do believe we'll be able to follow that most of the time and then following all other guidelines and play switch again we hope to learn more about July option b is Blended learning right now the research firm I recognize that UAB Dave they do believe this is on scientific but based on interviews and some research that and a b day schedule presents the best options when it comes to health and safety potential and impact on Child Care Learning equity and cost and complexity so I can guarantee this will be the plan there strong possibility that option b could be the plan which also carries the lowest risk as an OS Austria and Australia have implemented this and based on their research they found that it's the most effective so Blended learning scheduling would be we would have everything in place for health and safety guidelines including the sacred lunches the students would alternate days in person and remote 10 11th graders would meet in person Monday and Wednesday Tuesday and Thursday would be remote learning for them and then 10th and 12th will be the opposite meeting on Tuesday and Thursday and Monday and Wednesday would be remote learning lunches be staggered again so 9th and 10th to go first on those days and 11 to 12 i Fridays would be available for in-person or virtual meeting by appointment with teachers again will be better monitoring who comes in and out of the building we plan to use a barcode system to to track that as well I'm all staff would report every day with us so what does that look like so when students are in person they can plan on their teachers facilitating and supporting them with assignment projects for practice problems there might be class discussions or the Date Presentation type of activities that are really best done in person collaboration opportunities to work on projects utilizing our resources like 3D printers are C & C machines various other computer software Hardware technologies that we have available Apple building on remote learning day students will get started on or complete assignments, they will be expected to engage in some type of learning for each class everyday learning so this could be reading a short article watching a video and taking notes and teachers are available during that  last time for office hours so they we would expect her students to follow the same schedule as they would in school so teachers would be available for check in for that support on the days when there is remote learning so awesome he would be 100% about learning but I want to save before I dive into those that this would be different than what we we have right now we recognize that right now the past three months we've been in survival mode this will look different in the fall if we need to move to percent remote learning for one thing we can plan on a little even more structure and support from our teaching staff but also we're expecting our students to eat on a daily basis have to move to this model so my students would still alternates days with virtual classes and office hours so it's similar to the Blended learning 9th and 11th graders would meet virtual we would expect all of our students to be checking and 9th and 11th grade on Monday and Wednesday with your entire class so if you have black 2 at 8:50 I used to be logging into the zoom or Google Hangout to meet your teacher and her classmates at that time Tuesdays and Thursdays would be more optional but available for Virtual Office hours the opposite would be true for 10th and 12th grade and then Fridays would be available for a virtual meetings by appointment all right no option D and again looking at the graph we showed earlier there is a possibility that we might need to make them into your shift so we might go back to normal D with a bunch of model and then if there is a spike in the virus we could be we need to be prepared for that possibility that we might have to shift temporarily to remote learning that happen we might be forced to make a change and basically we would move from plans A or B to plan C so we believe that being prepared leads to productivity the more that we can be ready for these Alternatives the better we will the more productive we will be the better Learners will be so we believe in preparation so our staff has undergone some professional development to focus on improving our online curriculum on communication and social emotional support we aim to try to facilitate project-based learning Annie Morrison took away from a distance in the fall meaning that students should have mostly a richer learning experience even if they have to learn from home students you'll go through remote learning orientation first two weeks of school to ensure that you are prepared for any scenario so we will do some dry run or teaching opportunities so that you can see what it would be like should we have to move to remove mold learning you'll do the same for parents as well so you'll have some parent workshops in August and September to support students with remote learning so what routines do we need to set up how can we some moral support us to be successful in cool I will have workshops to discuss all that as well as you're doing during these systems like Google classroom and Alma are you have questions I'm sure which option seems most viable to in most comfortable to only recognize it it is June 7th as I am making this recording and a lot can change and in three months before we go back to school but we do
